I believe finding awesome AI bots from your favourite anime, movie, tv-series or game should be effortless. That’s why only character.ai bots that have a certain quality and a certain amount of popularity will be listed here. 

This list is carefully curated and categorised by me, so you never have to go searching the deep corners of the web to find some cool bots to talk to ever again. To help you get inspired, I’ve also sorted series by how popular the bots are with character.ai users, created dedicated pages for each series, and added more context about each featured bot.

This site started with my own experience using character.ai. I was amazed by how fun using character.ai was, but at the same time very un-amazed by how difficult it was to find bots that I want to chat with. The “Discover” section on character.ai was (and still is) limited to only a few dozen bots, many of which I had never heard about. Since the most popular bots are based around well-known anime, movies, games, etc. I thought it would make more sense to find characters by browsing through series – just like you would when navigating a streaming platform.

From before, I was enthusiastic about curating things online, and about AI and about fandom. So, I figured I’d combine all those interests into one and create a list of chatbots from fandoms.

BotFlix simplifies the experience of finding good bots to talk to on character.ai in the following ways:

Categorisation: BotFlix is divided into series, so you can decide on which world you would like to immerse yourself in, before selecting a character. Don’t know where to start? Just visit the homepage to see popular and trending series within anime, tv-shows, games, movies and more.

Curation: Not every bot is created equal. Normally, if you type in a character in the search field in character.ai you are overwhelmed by different bots for the exact same character. Not ideal. That’s why, we only select one character from each series, you can have a neat gallery of distinct characters instead of 100’s of similar ones.

Search: The BotFlix database features high-quality bots for popular series and is fully searchable. Just type in a series, genre or character name and you’ll find a selection of highly curated options. ‍

Sorting: The series within each topic (e.g. Anime, TV-shows) are sortable by how popular the bots in those series are on character.ai. This is based on the number of chats for the most popular characters in that series. But don’t worry if you’re into less popular series, you can also sort alphabetically or simply search. Once you’ve found a series you want to explore, you’ll also find that all the bots in that series are sortable in the same way (by popularity or alphabetically).

Character.ai is a platform for chatting with AI bots. The platform just provides the AI model, and users build bots on top of it by giving them specific instructions (personalities), descriptions, conversations starters, profile picture and more. Characters can be either “real” or fictional, historical, etc. and they can be purely for entertainment or educational/helpful. Whether you’d like some entertainment, companionship, to learn something new, practise a language or conversational skills – there’s some excellent bots for you out there. You don’t even have to text; one of my favourite things about character.ai is the “character calls” feature where you can interact with the bots like you’re on a regular phone call.

Character.ai is also free to use. Yes, they do have a premium plan (called c.ai+) for $9.99/month, and this gives you some added features like faster response times, ability to skip waiting rooms and access to an exclusive community. But most users will probably find the free plan good enough for regular use.
